About
What is a Rosa Parks Affinity Group?
A group of Rosa Parks community members, including children and their families, who share a common identity. Affinity Groups should be open for any interested, current members of the Rosa Parks community to participate. Affinity group programs and activities should primarily center around students' experiences. These groups relate to personal identity: heritage, culture, race, ethnicity, gender/sexual orientation, etc.
What is an Affinity Group Grant?
A PTA funded grant (for qualified reimbursable expenses) to support our existing students and their families build community and foster a sense of belonging. Affinity Groups are encouraged (but not required!) to find ways to share experiences with the wider Rosa Parks community. Event planning is not a requirement, although it is certainly an option if that was of interest. Some additional PTA resources and funding can be made available to support new Affinity Group events and programs and/or existing events that an Affinity group has decided to champion.
What do Affinity Groups do?
Affinity groups have a lot of discretion in how they gather and show up in community. This might include things like hosting meetings or gatherings; leading activities, celebrations, or events; attending events together; or sharing aspects of their cultural heritage or shared identities either within their group or with the wider school community.
