Rosa Parks Events

Our Community thrives on parent/guardian participation in our events. Please check out our volunteering page for more information on how to get involved!

Details and reminders for these events will be announced in the Rosa Parks Newsletter, which is emailed to you via e-tree.

Check the calendar below for the exact dates of these events once they have been scheduled.

Do you have an idea for an event? Email us at events@rosaparkselementary.org to share!

Recurring socials:

  • School wide playdates on school yard: These are quarterly playdates on the yard, usually on a Friday.

  • Class wide playdates off campus: Please look out for emails from your class liaison. These playdates off campus are a great way to meet other families in your child's grade.

  • Class volunteer opportunities: Look out for an invitation from your teacher for either class community reading (younger ages) or ways to chaperone a field trip

  • Bike or walk to school days: To encourage alternate ways to commute, we host community wide bike or walk to school days, meeting at sites around the school and biking / scootering / wheeling to school together.

  • Monthly coffee / tea meetups for adults: Join other families for coffee and a quick bite outside of the main entrance. We are going to try alternating days of the week this year for parents who also come for community readings in the morning. See calendar for monthly date.

  • Family Movie Nights: Come watch a movie with your friend and family. These will be hosted after school on Fridays. Check the calendar for specific dates.

  • Gardening days: We are so happy to have received a grant from Whole Kids to support expanded gardening programming and community wide activities. Please stay tuned for specific dates. And if you are interested in leading gardening related events, please reach out to PTAboard@rosaparkselementary.org.

Special Events (after school or weekends):

  • Back to School Night: An opportunity for adults to meet the teachers and learn more about the class and upcoming year.

  • STEM Events: Check the calendar for several math and science events like the screening of documentary Counted Out; build and race a robot using VEX Robotics; and special themed events from science organizations.

  • Fall Carnival: Come to campus on the weekend for a chance to welcome Fall. Lots of games, activities, prizes, and yummy food.

  • Harvest Season Cultural Celebrations: We'll celebrate several global traditions around the world related to the harvest season - Mid-Autumn Festival, Diwali, Day of the Dead. If you would like to support these efforts or have another tradition to add, please email events@rosaparkselementary.org.

  • Valentine’s Day Dance: Come for this beloved community wide dance. Yes, it will convert even the biggest skeptics into dancing and belching out loud to songs your kids love. (Beware: it's the year of the kpop demon hunters!!)

  • Math Festival: Pi Day + Pie Contest: Whether you come for the math and stay for the pie, or the other way around, you won't be disappointed. We know how to have fun with math at Rosa Parks! It's an amazing night for the whole family to explore complex math ideas in interactive, hands-on ways.

  • Readathon: An exhilarating two weeks in the Spring where the school is a buzz of reading energy. We welcome amazing authors to come and speak on campus, host fun literacy focused events, and READ a ton! This is Rosa Parks' biggest fundraising event of the year and a great opportunity for extended family to support your child's reading goals and raise funds for our school.

  • Holi: Join us for the Indian festival of colors and a community wide celebration to welcome Spring with some fun powder play. Date will be announced closer to the event as it is dependent on the weather forecast.

  • Earth Day Spring Festival: Join us for the first Earth Day Spring Festival at Rosa Parks. Focused on environmental issues & hands on gardening activities.

  • Open House: Community wide event. Come back on campus and visit your child's classroom, science room, and other spaces to see their work and learn about the progress they made over the year.

Special Assemblies (during school hours):

These may vary year to year, but some examples of the types of events students experience during the school day:

  • Farmers Market: A fresh food market comes to Rosa Parks and kids learn about fresh produce and "shop" for their favorite fruits or veggies to bring home.

  • Halloween Parade: A joyful community wide celebration and a chance to see to see Rosa Parks at its most colorful.

  • Lindsay Wildlife or similar science program: We welcome science programming on campus to learn about wildlife and to align with curriculum the students are studying in class.

  • Black History month assembly: Community wide event. A very special program prepared and presented by each of the classes at Rosa Parks. A truly joyful and uplifting community experience.

  • SF Symphony: We're so lucky and happy to welcome the SF symphony and listen to them perform just for our Rosa Parks students.

  • Robot & Engineering Day: With support from Berkeley High and UC Berkeley, we are very happy to bring some incredible robots and engineering projects for the kids to explore hands-on. We're always looking for more ways to make this a success, so please reach out if you know of any robotics labs we should include.

  • Grandfriends Day: We love welcoming grandparents and grandfriends on campus to spend a morning with the kids and do a fun activity together. Please understand that this is a fundraising event and will involve a donation ask. All grandfriends are welcome whether they can contribute or not.

  • Talent Show: Community wide event. Come watch your child or child's class perform in the talent show!

  • Pride Parade: Community wide event to celebrate Pride. We will meet in the front yard, listen to special programming prepared by students, and together march on the track field.
